What do you need to know about innovative Fan Coil equipment?
Modern solution for both cooling and heating – cost-effectively!
The Fan Coil is a highly reliable system for both heating and cooling (with fan and heat exchanger) that also fits perfectly in heat pump systems. The water flowing through the heat exchanger lines provides cooling or heating with the help of the ribs of the heat exchanger and the air flowing through the fan, according to the current needs. The heating water required for heating is provided by a boiler, heat pump or other heat generating device. A heat pump can also be a suitable solution for providing cooling water, as well as other suitable liquid cooling devices.
Fan Coil equipment has spread mainly at the institutional level, but nowadays its use for residential purposes is also showing an increasing trend. Their popularity is not accidental: by purchasing practical equipment, we can also take care of cooling and heating, at a one-time expense. In addition, they take up little space in the usable space of the rooms, their construction does not require complicated, time-consuming installation work, and they offer an energy- and cost-saving alternative to ensure the optimal temperature. In the case of Fan Coil systems, on the other hand, a flow temperature of 40 ° C is sufficient (75-90 ° C for radiators).
Introduction to different Fan Coil systems
Fan Coil units are available in several versions: you can choose between standing, wall and ceiling models. It is advisable to place the former in place of the radiators under a window (parapet solution), and the latter can be hidden above the suspended ceiling with a coverless design. There are also special ducted type equipment, which can be used to provide fresh air to the rooms.
There are two main types of Fan Coil systems: the two-pipe version and the four-pipe version. In the former, the cooling and heating water circulates in the same pair of pipes, and the cooling / heating mode must be set in the heating center as required or seasonally. If you want to switch modes, the transition for this type can be lengthy. The two-pipe system has two nozzles and a heat exchanger, in which cold and hot water circulate alternately.
The four-pipe type is a much more comfortable and practical choice than the two-pipe version, but it is less budget-friendly: it already has two heat exchangers and two pairs of nozzles (separately for cooling, separately for heating) and its switch is fully automatic. The four-pipe Fan Coil system allows the cooling and heating functions to be implemented simultaneously in different rooms. An additional positive of this variant is that it has a smaller surface area heat exchanger than its cooling one, so the heating power it produces is adapted to the needs of the room. With all this in mind, it proves to be a more economical investment than the two-pipe version.
What benefits can you expect if you choose to use Fan Coil systems?
- The use of Fan Coil devices involves low water and energy consumption, and they can be perfectly combined with other chiller or water coolers. also with heat generating equipment (heat pumps, condensing boilers, solar collectors);
- due to their air ductability, the supply of fresh air to the rooms can be ensured;
- they prove to be a more cost-effective solution for the implementation of the radiator-climate combination;
- their mode of operation is noiseless;
- fast cooling / heating – which can be solved at the same time;
- they can be placed in any room and can be implemented with several solutions.
